Full Description
Metro Arts is keeping things hot with our espresso bar – but for those who prefer a cool touch in summer, we’ve just introduced delicious banana and berry smoothies, iced chocolates, coffees, and a variety of other refreshing beverages.
Ex-Melbourne barista Sean Cheshire is leading the team, who are brewing the best freshly ground Di Bella coffee five days a week. Our caffeine-induced buzz may entice us to go on about how great the service is, how the beans are Fair Trade-sourced, what a massive bargain it is to get a 8oz flat white for only $2.50 in this town (not to mention the taste) but we believe that like all great art, it must be experienced! So test the waters and let us know what you think… The Fat Man is already a convert. Every cup supports us here at Metro Arts, so drink up and keep art piping hot!
Venues and facilities such as theatres, galleries, artist studios and rehearsal spaces combine with a popular restaurant and espresso bar to create a vibrant space for artists, audiences and the wider city population to interact and connect. This unique cross pollination fuels a continuous conversation at Metro Arts, which inspires work which continually surprises, enlightens and expands the culture of Brisbane.
In 2007, Metro Arts launched a satellite facility at the Norman Park Substation No. 9. Once a disused electricity substation, it now powers artists to continue creating and testing new work in an affordable, historically rich space.
Metro Arts’ strength is its ability to cultivate creativity, quality and sustainability. As an incubator, enabler, producer and co presenter, Metro Arts challenges independent artists to create new works which bust through genres and break up art forms.
Metro Arts’ renowned series of interconnected programs feature the Galleries Program, The Independents, MAPS for Artists and Allies. Professional and artistic development programs tailored specifically to individual artists’ needs provide the support, validation and networks necessary to succeed in a challenging industry.
Metro Arts is strongly committed to the sustainability of artists’ practices and works closely with them to assist in the creation and implementation of strategies for the future life of their work. With a focus on investing in artists rather than projects, Metro Arts has developed a model for delivering accessible programs considered best-practice on a national level. Its services and networks facilitate artists’ engagement with the wider industry. Subsequently, many of the works seeded at Metro Arts, or with the support of its programs, journey to other theatres and galleries across Australia and internationally.
Metro Arts has a proud history as a not-for-profit organisation of providing an accessible, responsive, diverse and adaptable platform that is consistently trusting and respectful of artists.
It’s a unique community. It’s a strong community. It’s a vital community. Why not be part of it?
